AKA Custom Builders Training at Skeetchestn Dodeca-Homes
Skeetchestn, BC – Skeetchestn Dodeca-Homes is proud to announce a partnership with Kanaka Bar Indian Band, providing modular housing units for a culturally supportive housing project, coordinated through Urban Systems Ltd. This collaboration represents a powerful step forward in Indigenous-led solutions to the ongoing housing crisis, with First Nation communities supporting one another through innovation, self-determination, and shared knowledge.
This initiative not only addresses urgent housing needs but also demonstrates the strength and capacity within Indigenous communities to develop their own housing strategies from design through delivery. “This is more than a housing project—this is Nation-to-Nation empowerment,” says Mike Anderson, the Founder of Skeetchestn Dodeca-Homes. “We're proud to support Kanaka Bar in a solution that keeps resources, employment, and knowledge within Indigenous hands.” This project has a First Nation-owned construction company, AKA Custom Builders, involved as they have been trained and certified to build these ready-to-assemble modules through the funding provided by CMHC’s Housing supply challenge.
The Kanaka Bar housing project is a model of Indigenous economic development and sustainability. By investing in each other, First Nations are reclaiming control over their futures, one home at a time. This partnership sets a precedent for what is possible when communities are given the tools to thrive. Skeetchestn Dodeca-Homes is honoured to contribute to a growing movement of sovereign Indigenous housing.
